Plastic Surface Coating

The plastic coating on the surface of the plastic shell is a very important part in the production process of electric vehicles, which will directly affect the quality of the finished electric vehicles.

1. Normally, it has two different plastic coating: PU coating and UV coating.

2. The difference between PU coating and UV coating:

Performance:

PU coating: flexible (soft), non-cracking, not easy to change color, and long time for color retention (freshness) (not changing color for 2-3 years, at least 2 years)

UV coating: High hardness, easy to crack, short color retention (fresh) time (no color change for 1-2 years, up to 2 years)

Weather resistance:

PU coating: It is less affected by the weather (wind, wind, rain, high temperature and other extreme weather), and no photochemical phenomenon (discoloration, cracking, shedding, etc.) will occur after a long period of high-intensity light.

UV coating: It is greatly affected by the climate. After a long period of light, the photochemical  and yellowing phenomena are serious, and the paint layer is easy to come off;

Coating time for one electric motorcycle’s plastic parts: 3.5 hours for PU coating; 1.5 hours for UV coating

 Unit cost: Regardless of labor cost, the single material cost PU is about ¥10 to ¥15/set higher than UV coating.

Therefore, considering the problems of water vapor and moisture in shipping, the surface coating of foreign trade vehicles usually uses PU.

3. coating steps:

Preliminary work: check and clean the surface of ABS plastic parts to ensure that the appearance is free of damage and dust.

Main four steps: coating primer--coating topcoat--decal--covering

Later work: packaging plastic parts after baking finish
